![]() November 15th, 2001 - A Slice of Heaven Last month I went away with a golfing friend to stay at a fishing village further up the North Coast of New South Wales. It's a slice of Heaven. Even the whales popped in for a browse on their annual trek to the Antarctic - Mum, Dad and Child - the child, staying close to Mum, was already the size of a super-tanker. I excel at doing nothing. There isn't anyone in the world who can do 'nothing' better than myself. Glenys discovered for the first time, the joy in doing 'nothing'. We read amusing books and laughed ourselves sick over Jilly Cooper's "Riders" and "Rivals". We had to walk to the toilets and shower block which was for the whole campsite. I'd reluctantly haul myself out of bed during the blackness of night - three times - at least to pay my respects. Old age has quite a few drawbacks and that's one of them when you go camping... But the stroll back was another touch of heaven as the clear skies revealed a trillion stars up there brightly regarding us mere mortals. As we too are made of star dust, they must surely wonder what we've done to Earth, to each other and the Firmament. Its rather comforting to know they'll still be around twinkling and lighting up their environment long after we've blasted each other and our planet's environment, to blazes. Glenys returned to Sydney looking like a new girl. There's a marvellous movie you should see "The Man who Sued God". Billy Connolly stars in it and is excellent. Not only is the movie terribly funny, it is also beautiful. Much of it is shot at Bega. This fishing village is as far down the coast of New South Wales as possible. A few more miles and you're in Victoria. The film is soo original, funny, scenically beautiful and takes a punt at the corporate giants and religions. It's one of those 'feel good' movies that you want to see again. Meantime I'm still determined to find someone in Australia who'll publish my Quartet - at least by then I'll have finished all four! The fourth one is bursting to get more written. I guess this week it'll be butt down, head focused, blood shot eyes as I bring all these characters together in one hell of a clash when Yahweh and Ankor begin their vendetta - which is when the real Armageddon began - and Yahweh (evil) is brought to task by Ankor who is fighting overwhelming odds to defeat that horrendous evil. My son, Stephen, has acquired a six month old black labrador golden retriever cross. Oh gord - he's discovered a wonderful urn filled with peacock feathers and as a result of this discovery, they are now looking quite mangy. The people who owned him rang me distraught and begged me to help. They took over a shockingly neglected dog I was nurturing, Bonny, and then bought this pup and named him Clyde... He has been renamed Sooty and adores my son. Red is getting very old now, he's blind and rather deaf but not in any pain and floats around my feet - like to like, age to age. He adores Stephen and has ridden on the tank of all my son's bikes for at least twelve of his fourteen years so I'm hoping Soot will fill the gap when Red shuffles off this mortal coil. I've another story about my darling Shadow to add to my site. Just needs a bit of editing on my part. Have fun, laugh, enjoy life, be kind to one another. Helen |
