We never made it - we got as far as Fassifern.

I want to pause here to say that the men at that Train Station were fantastic - in view of the fact that a fire-storm was rapidly heading our way. As was our driver. Congratulations to the lot of you.

One passenger to me: 'I've just flown in from Auckland. Why did he say we're stopping?'

Me: 'It's a bush fire on both sides of the train line. I've had a look at it.' (I didn't tell her Dante's Inferno was on the loose and headed our way).

N.Z.Passenger, puzzled: 'Why doesn't someone put it out?'

When we were all ordered off the train to cross over the bridge to the 'safe'? side, I said to the Kiwi, 'If you look you'll see why someone doesn't put it out'

My humour was wasted.

Today the bushfire is still on the rampage and roads are blocked, Wangi is without power as power lines are down. It was one hellofafire and I doff my lid to the men and women who were in the front line fighting Dante's Inferno. You are all true heroes.
