Sunday, April 27, 2003, The War

I've kept pretty quiet about the war in Iraq, mainly because it's all there in our living rooms for us to see and judge for ourselves.

It has been horrendous, devastating for the many innocent citizens of Iraq and certainly cruel. Like so many previous wars, it has been unnecessary, and is far from over for America.
Bush, Rumsfeld and gang look very pleased with themselves...no doubt they'll plant evidence of those non-existent Weaplons of mass destruction. But America is on the way down in world opinion.

I doubt they are capable of handling the mess they've created in Iraq.
Our Australian soldiers have upheld the tradition begun by the First A.I.F. And I'm inordinately proud of them.

First Gallipoli - but not lets forget the "Rats of Tobruk" in the Second A.I.F. My brother Ted was in WW2 and, along with his fellow soldiers, wanted to uphold the tradition set by our soldiers in WW1. Then too there were the few hundred Aussies who took on ten thousand trained Japs in New Guinea on the Kokoda Track in WW2. There were our men in the infamous war in Vietnam.

Now 2000 Aussie's in Iraq equal 250,000 troops sent by the coalition to pound into dust a little country incapable of defending itself.

Truth is hard to beat.

We, as a Nation, will be pleased and very proud to see our men and women all back. Fortunately they had the wisdom to keep clear of "friendly fire"...
You'll hear more from me soon
